About

Photo of Christine, aka McStuffies, PhD

First, yes, the PhD is real. I have a doctorate in Education with a focus in Literature for Children and Young Adults. Yes, I’m very proud of it. No, I don’t actively use it day-to-day. Yes, I can recommend books for you and your kids.

I taught myself to crochet in 2019 as a way to keep my hands busy and have an activity that wasn’t entirely screen-based. I quickly fell in love and haven’t stopped using my hook and yarn to create fun things.

In my work, I carefully select natural yarns like wool, cotton, and silk, prioritizing small businesses and ethical sourcing. While crochet is a traditional technique, my designs have a contemporary flair. My products range from one-of-a-kind statement pieces  — like huggable pirates and 3 foot bongs — to small moments of joy, such as tiny bee earrings or a chubby shark.

When I’m not crocheting, I work at Western Michigan University in Research Development – I help the university bring in research grants! You can also find me playing video or board games, watching way too much tv (usually while crocheting), hanging out with friends, and often at One Well.

I live with my wife, our three cats, and one dog. My life is generally chaos. But I’m not sure I’d have it any other way.
